Terms of Use

The terms that apply when you create, organise, share or verify proofs with HashMyWords.

Last updated: 11 September 2026

1. What HashMyWords provides

HashMyWords is a technical document-protection, proof-of-existence and verification service. Current File Proof and Protect workflows calculate the exact file SHA-256 locally and record that SHA-256 on Hedera. Private text uses a salted SHA-256 hash instead. Historical proof formats remain supported for verification. Optional accounts add organisational and sharing features around confirmed proofs.

2. What a proof means — and what it does not mean

For a current H2 file proof, a matching record can help show that the displayed SHA-256 was recorded on Hedera by the shown consensus time and that a selected file has exactly that SHA-256. Historical proofs establish the corresponding proof value under the format used when they were created. A HashMyWords proof does not by itself establish identity, authorship, legal ownership, authenticity, truth, original creation time, copyright registration or the legal weight a court or other decision-maker should give the evidence.

If the material matters, preserve the original material, protected reference copy where applicable, receipt and surrounding evidence rather than relying on the timestamp alone.

3. Protect, file proofs and text proofs

Protect v1 rebuilds supported PDFs locally in your browser before hashing and timestamping the exact protected output. Ordinary form fields may be flattened and interactive annotations, page actions and other active or source-only PDF structures may be removed. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs, XFA forms and PDFs containing existing digital signature fields are rejected rather than deliberately transformed. You are responsible for checking the downloaded protected PDF is suitable for your intended use before sharing it.

Protect is not encryption, digital-rights management, a digital signature, a general malware scanner or a guarantee that every possible malicious PDF technique has been removed. It does not prevent reading, copying, printing, screenshots, redistribution or later editing. Its timestamp is designed to make later byte changes detectable through exact-file verification.

For current file proofs, the file is hashed locally in your browser and the standard SHA-256 is recorded publicly on Hedera. The original file is not uploaded to HashMyWords. You are responsible for keeping the original file and proof material needed for later verification. Anyone who possesses a candidate file can compare its SHA-256 with the public proof.

Public text can be stored by HashMyWords and may appear in public search. Private text remains browser-side; the plaintext and private salt stay on your device and only the resulting salted SHA-256 hash and proof metadata are submitted.

4. Secret codes, receipts and certificates

Secret codes are private proof credentials. HashMyWords stores only a one-way check value and cannot recover the original code. Keep your secret code or receipt securely.

A JSON receipt can contain the secret code, standard file SHA-256 and local file metadata. Protect receipts can additionally contain the Protect reference and local source-file metadata. A PDF certificate deliberately excludes the secret code but can include filenames, standard SHA-256 values and a Protect reference. Sharing either document can disclose information contained in it.

6. Your responsibilities and acceptable use

  • Use HashMyWords only for lawful purposes.
  • Do not submit unlawful, abusive, deceptive or rights-infringing public content.
  • Do not use the service to harass others, distribute malware or facilitate unlawful activity.
  • Do not bypass rate limits, Turnstile, account controls or other security measures.
  • Do not automate submissions or account actions in a way that creates unreasonable load, disruption or third-party cost.
  • Keep original material, protected reference copies, receipts, secret codes and account credentials secure and verify that you are preserving the exact material you intend to prove.

7. Public content and moderation

You remain responsible for public text you submit and for having any rights or permissions needed to publish it. You permit HashMyWords to store, reproduce and display public text as necessary to operate public search and the service.

HashMyWords may hide, remove or restrict public content in its own application where reasonably necessary for moderation, security or legal compliance. Doing so does not remove the related confirmed Hedera transaction or HCS message.

8. Availability, limits and pricing

HashMyWords is currently offered without a user charge for its core proof workflows, but usage limits, supported Protect document types and sizes, features or pricing may change in the future. Rate limits and anti-abuse controls can restrict use even where a feature is free.

The service depends on hosting, internet, email, security and Hedera infrastructure and may be changed, interrupted, suspended or discontinued. Do not treat HashMyWords as your only copy of important evidence.

9. Third-party networks and services

HashMyWords uses third-party infrastructure including Hedera and other service providers. Their availability, rules and technical behaviour are outside HashMyWords’ complete control. Links to public network explorers or other third-party services are provided for convenience and independent verification.

If you choose to upload a protected PDF to an AI service or share it with another third party, that third party’s privacy, retention, training, intellectual-property and data-use terms apply. HashMyWords Protect does not control or change those terms and does not prevent the third party from reading or retaining a file you choose to provide.

10. No professional advice

HashMyWords does not provide legal, financial, compliance, intellectual-property, cybersecurity or other professional advice. If a record may have legal, commercial or security importance, obtain advice appropriate to your circumstances and jurisdiction.

11. Disclaimer

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. HashMyWords does not guarantee that a proof will establish any particular legal outcome, that Protect will remove every possible harmful or active PDF feature, that a protected document will be accepted by any third-party service, that third-party infrastructure will always be available, or that the service will operate without interruption or error.

12. Governing law

Unless mandatory law requires otherwise, these Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and related disputes are subject to the courts of New South Wales.
